SLOW DOWN!!!
Millions upon millions of people wake up each morning in different parts of the world. Some get to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, while others have to struggle and scrape by to hope they get something to satisfy their hunger. Then you have those who wake up, hail a taxi, and they’re off to the airport for their next flight, making sure businesses are running properly. They may be CEO’s, Vice Presidents, Managers, or they could be someone interviewing for a new position half way around the world. Others are struggling to make ends meet, they’ve never stepped foot outside the city they have been in for years, or they could be homeless, living day by day hoping for the next quick buck they get.
People!!! Stop and breathe! I am always amazed at the people that are in a mad rush in this world and seemingly never stopping to look around them. Lord knows that I myself get caught up in those moments, but if society does not take a moment to stop, take a look around, and gain a greater appreciation for their surroundings, they will never truly experience life. I’m amazed that there are so many little things out there that people on a daily basis miss. We as a society have become so consumed by the ideals of bigger, quicker, immediate, NOW! The cell phones we carry give us the most immediate access to this vast network of information, and we carry them with us waiting for that next e-mail, responding to fifty other e-mails, and consistently stuck with the dang thing glued to our hands!
Where I work, and live, I see people starting and ending beautiful vacations every day. This for me is a privilege and is something I used to really enjoy! I used to love seeing people enjoy their vacations, but lately, it’s become a nightmare. I would say about 1 out of every 10 people that comes on vacation is truly happy. Never in my life have the words “What is wrong with you?!”, “YOU ruined my vacation”, or “I need wireless to get online to enjoy vacation!” been uttered so much! People have lost connection with the real world. It’s like they think that being away and online still a vacation. They go to these amazing places, foreign and domestic, just to escape their every day life, but they bring it with them in the form of technology! This just baffles me! If I ever get a chance to take a vacation you bet your sweet butt the only thing I’m doing is bringing a camera! You do NOT need to check your Facebook 100 times a day to see who liked your last photo, you do NOT need to see how many people viewed your profile, what you DO need, is that time to re-connect with your family, friends, and loved one! So do me a favour, when you go on vacation next, I challenge you: Take just a Camera. Nothing more, nothing less. Take a photo of everything you do, write a postcard to loved ones that weren’t as lucky to join you, and get involved in the local festivities! I’m 100% sure you will be more happy then you have ever been on any vacation!
The other day out and about, I said a simple “Hi” to someone. This person whipped around and demanded an explanation of why I would even consider saying “Hi” to someone I don’t know and wanted to know if I was crazy. Erm, I just said Hi! I was being nice, Ya know,
hi/hī/

I guess, the long story short of this quick little write-up, is share more love!!!! Share more happy moments and connections with people! Offer to buy someone a cup of coffee for pete’s sake! Surprise your co-worker with their favorite lunch, help an elderly person with their groceries, give some homeless people, (if it is legal where you are), some food, clothes, or items to clean with. Not everyone has a glamorous movie style life, but everyone does deserve the chance to be happy, share that happiness, and make an impact on others lives.
That’s the 411 skinny today from my brain, and if you enjoyed it great! If not, hopefully you will find something that makes you happy elsewhere!
